From the statements of Ayatollah Javadi Amoli

Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli:
Imam Hussein (pbuh) did not say that he would not pledge allegiance to Yazid ibn Mu’awiya; He rather said: one like me would not pledge allegiance to one like Yazid ibn Mu’awiya (Bihar al-Anwar, volume 44, p. 325). He said: a free-thinking person thinks like Hussein; he thinks like me, he does not surrender to oppression.
